New Job!

A few weeks ago I started looking for a new job. When we first moved into our new ward, we quickly found out that our bishop was a dentist and that his office was just down the street (literally). I mentioned that I had done Dental Assisting right out of high school and that I had enjoyed my time doing it. He asked, "Oh! Are you looking for a job!?" I laughed and said, "No. I don't really do that anymore."

Not long into my current job (product photographer at Dressing Your Truth, I realized I didn't want to be here. I had never done product photography and quickly found out that it wasn't something I enjoyed. While the job had plenty of perks (flexibility & $100 store credit per month), I found myself wanting to search for something else. The idea of dental assisting came to my mind but I kept shoving it away since it had been so long since I'd done it.

While Josh and I were driving home from Sunday dinner, I asked him, "What if I look for another job?" It was then that Josh suggested I talk to our bishop about dental assisting. Once Josh said this, I couldn't stop thinking about it. The next day, I posed the idea to my mom and listened to her advice. After that, I started looking at available jobs that were closer to where we live in Mapleton. I couldn't really find anything, so I sent our bishop a quick text.

A few days later, I was in his office having an interview and working on his kids mouths. I was so nervous for this. It had been 4+ years since I'd touched or used any of the dental tools. The days leading up to this interview were spent watching countless YouTube videos of dental assistants taking x-rays, cleaning & flossing teeth, and assisting the dentist in simply procedures. Luckily, watching these videos really paid off. Words that I hadn't looked at in years started coming back to me: mandible. distal. occlusal. vestibular. apex. dentin. bicuspid.

I was so thankful!

The interview, luckily, went very well. While I was still very rusty (and pretty slow), Bishop Griffiths was pleased with what I showed him. The following day, I met with his office manager, Shae, and was offered the job less than an hour later. Obviously, I said yes.

Sitting back in the dental chair was so much fun and brought back so many memories. I'm excited to start my new job at Mapleton Family Dentistry with Dr. Griffith's on February 5th. My last day at Dressing Your Truth will be Friday, February 2nd. I'm excited for this new opportunity and can't wait to see where life takes us next!!

Josh was asked to audition to play Clarinet in the Millennial Choir. While I'm not looking forward to the time he'll spend away from me, I am extremely proud of him and his many musical talents! It's always so much fun to attend his concerts and watch him perform or direct his own band at Maple Mountain. We were asked to play our flute and clarinet in Stake Conference in two weeks with the stake choir. Basically, I'm terrified. But, it'll be fun to play with Josh! I'm grateful we both have a love for music.
