I Cut My Thumb With A Potato Peeler
Where to even start?? It seems like life has become so busy since Christmas came to town. But what a beautiful time of year this truly is! We enjoyed the First Presidency Christmas devotional a few weeks ago while we finished decorating for Christmas. I love how this devotional can really help remind us what the true meaning of Christmas is. I specifically loved President Uchtdorf's talk. I hope that I can always be listening to the spirit so that I'm better prepared to serve and help other people.
Josh had his annual marching band banquet the other night. It was so much fun to see all of the students again. Knowing that this gets to be my life here on this earth makes me so happy. I know that I've certainly been changed because of all of the high school students I get to work with and get to know. There really are some fantastic kids out there! Josh and I have really enjoyed our first group of kids out at Maple Mountain. I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know so many more over the course of Josh's career.
Of course, we gushed about our students and congratulated them on such a successful season. I loved being there to celebrate them! Josh brought up the staff (the fab 5) and gave everyone a gift. Then, I got up and presented Josh a gift that the Booster had gotten for him. It gave me a chance to say some nice things about Josh since he always says so many sweet things about me. I sure did choose a good one!
Belinda Bringhurst (a band mom) hand painted this canvas for the marching band. It was a prop that fell from the back of the drum major podium at the end of the marching show. When she first showed it to us, we were so surprised to see "Hurst and Hill" up at the top. It will be such a fun keep sake for us when we look back on and remember our first year at Maple Mountain!
Thanks for the great wedding gift, Belinda :).
We've enjoyed spending time with the marching band staff as we've gotten to know them. The following night after the band banquet, we went to our new favorite restaurant: HuHot Mongolian Grill. We even planned an Ugly Christmas Sweater Game Night together for this weekend. We're getting excited!!
Josh and I got online to order our Ugly Christmas Sweaters dozens of times. Eventually, we knew we just needed to order them or it would be too late. So, we got on Amazon and picked out our sweaters. Mine arrived last Thursday and I was so excited to open it. I held it up and Sam (Josh's brother) said, "Um, Cambri? Why are the reindeer doing naughty things with each other??" I turned the sweater around and my jaw dropped. The reindeer were indeed doing very naughty things. So I put it back into the bag and placed it in our "to return" pile. A few days later, we found out that Josh's ugly sweater wouldn't be arriving until January. So. We kind of failed in the department this year...... maybe next time??
Saturday night I had some of my friends over for a Holiday Dessert Exchange. Hollie and Ashlyn both invited someone and we had a fun time stuffing our faces with sugary goodness and chit chatting by the fireplace on my lumpy couch. It was fun to see Hollie play nearly all of our board games with her friend, Becca.
Christine (Josh's mom) and Lorraine (family friend) came and took Josh, Sam, and I out to dinner and to see the Spanish Fork lights. They even brought some fun glasses they make all of the lights change into a different shape (snowmen, reindeer, candy canes, etc.). We had an enjoyable time listening to the Christmas music and looking at all of the fun lights and decorations.
The other day we went to the grocery store because we were well out of food to eat. While waiting in line, I asked Josh how much he thought our groceries would end up being. He said, "Hmmm. $83.00." I said, "My guess is $97.00." I always like to guess high because then I know I'll be pleasantly surprised when the total is less. Once the cashier had finished ringing up all of our items, she announced that our total was a little over $82.00. Josh and I both went, "AHHHH!!!!" Because, how can you not when one of you guessed so close!? So, yes. Josh won that one.
Friday night was spent at the high school with the band students for basketball pep band. I always have so much fun with these kids (which is a good thing because they're my forever date night). Josh has a few saxophone players (and a random clarinet student) who love the talk. A ton. They always joke around and talk about what's going on in their lives. It's fun to sit by them and joke alongside of them. It makes sharing my husband with a bunch of sixteen year olds much more fun.
We got some yummy steaks from a king stranger a week before Thanksgiving and the other night, we made some crockpot steak and potatoes. While peeling the potatoes, I decided to also peel some of my skin off. It bled and bled and bled. Thank goodness for bandaids, right!?
We are getting so excited for Christmas!! We're both looking forward to talking to both of our sisters who are currently serving missions in Pennsylvania and Georgia. It'll be great to take a break from work and school and spend some time with family.
