Trophies & Mugs
This is always my FAVORITE time of the year. It brings sitting by the fire, apple cider, pies, cinnamon scented candles, boots, and sweaters. It's also time for general conference and all of those fun marching band competitions!! This is mine and Josh's second season teaching together - even though I don't get to teach as often as I would like because of my job... but I still love being around the kids and feeling the excitement that marching band brings.
I've always loved listening to general conference and the inspired words that our leaders share. Josh and I were able to listen to conference together both days. I'm looking forward to going back and reading what was shared! During the priesthood session, Hollie and I decided to have a girls night since Mom & Ashlyn were gone in St. George to celebrate Ashlyn's 18th birthday. We went to Zupas (apparently everyone else had the same idea as us because the line was so long) and then to Hobby Lobby to buy mugs that we could decorate.
I decorated my mug with trees and colorful fall leaves and Hollie drew cute animals all around hers. Unfortunately, my crafting skills are just as bad as my cooking and the drawings on the mugs come off after one wash in the dishwasher. In case you're wondering, baking your mug after you've drawn on it does not keep the sharpie on.
This past Tuesday, we celebrated the 8th anniversary since the bus crash and attended the Rocky Mountain Invitational at BYU. It's been a different experience working with a 2A band. Instead of warming up under the lights of the parking lots, we warm up in daylight. I'm not complaining since it keeps me warmer ;), but I'm definitely looking forward to when Josh has one of the "big bands". The kids did a great job!! We took both the Auxiliary (color guard) and Percussion captions and placed second overall in the 2A class. Josh has been doing an amazing job with these kids! We perform at Davis high school tomorrow, American Fork high school in a little over a week, and then we're off to St. George for the State competition. It's crazy how fast the season is going! I'm not ready for it to end!! Though, I am looking forward to spending more time with this husband ;).

The prop that comes down at the end of the marching band show. It says, "Hill & Hurst" on the top and the address has the year we're married. Belinda Bringhurst (one of the band mom's) made this prop for as a gift for our wedding. I'm trying to decide where to put it in our house once the season is over... :)
(Yes, mother. I'm seriously going to put this in my house!)
Josh's Booster President, Shelley, made this with her kids for a school project. Once they were done, she decided to prank Josh by dressing it up in a marching band uniform.

An old student of mine, McKenzie, added this dog tag to her already existing ones after I had left Westlake. I had to take a picture so I could always remember this. She's definitely a special girl to me and I'm grateful for her and the example that she is to me.
