First Place!
Exciting news! Our band took home the first place trophy on Saturday at the Davis Cup Competition in Kaysville, UT. We are so proud of the kids!!
We were the first 2A band to perform at 1:30PM. We sat around and waited until 4:30 when the 2A awards began. As you all know, we've been getting 2nd in all of our competitions (which is AWESOME!), and we've only dreamed about hearing our name as the first place winners. They announced the captions as:
Color Guard - West Jordan
Percussion - Lehi
Visual - Maple Mountain
Music - Lehi
If you know anything about the way that marching band competitions are scored and judged, the Music caption is worth the most points. Typically, whoever gets music is awarded first place. But occasionally it will be given to someone else. After hearing that we had received the visual caption, Josh and I were expecting second place. They announced West Jordan high school as the third place winners and then announced Lehi as second place. Josh and I looked at each other and said, "Lehi? Wait. What!?"
I squeeze Josh's hand and Brielle (our color guard instructor) grabbed my other hand, excitedly. At first I thought, "Maybe we got fourth somehow?" Sure enough, Maple Mountain's name was called out over the speaker, indicating that we had won first place.
Our kids beamed down on the field. They were so happy. It was an incredible thing to witness. I looked over at Josh to see happy tears streaming down his face. After working hard for so long, it was so exciting to be handed that first place trophy. The kids who were sitting behind us were screaming as loud as they could and texting the other band members that had gone home earlier. We had some celebrating to do!! I even got a big kiss on the lips from Josh - in the middle of all of those people (for those of you who know Josh well, this is totally not normal. It sure did make me feel special!!).

Right after exiting the field. These were the kids that ended up staying the rest of the day with us while the other kids went home to (hopefully) work on homework. They were so happy and couldn't stop talking the entire night.
Of course we needed a picture with Josh's first, 1st place trophy. The kids were amazed at how big it was and were excited to show everyone.
And obviously we had to kiss it ;).
Sitting in front of our trophies from the current season. We're hoping to add a few more soon!!
We were missing a student the other day at rehearsal so Josh hopped in! I married a man with many, many talents!
These photos are some of the things that kids had posted after finding out we had taken first place. I took a screenshot so we could remember all of the funny and exciting posts :).
