Fall Concerts, Breaks, & Dates!

We finally had our first date night alone since being married last Friday! YAY! Being married to a band director means that your date nights also include 50+ other loud teenagers and their even louder musical instruments. Most of our Friday nights (since being married) have been filled with football games and pep band charts.

Good thing we love those kids, right?! *wink*

Finally. We had our first night alone. As soon as we found out this day was free, we booked it with our own date night. I had been looking forward to this night for a long time. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings (of course) in American Fork (it's worth the drive from Mapleton, I promise) and then to Home Depot to purchase some Construction Worker vests for the Marching Band show the next day. After that, we walked to Walmart and bought the most adorable mini peach and blueberry pies for dessert.

We both love watching movies, but most of the time our exhaustion causes us to fall asleep before we're even ten minutes in. It will usually take us 2-4 nights to completely finish a movie. So far, we've watched Titanic and The Prestige and we've begun Miss Congeniality -- we'll see how many nights this one takes to finish ;).

Josh had his Fall Band Concert last Tuesday. It's been so much fun to see what he can do with what is placed in front of him. He's pretty tough on himself, so he will often tell you: "it's not going to be that great", but he's always wrong. The kids did a wonderful job and I'm sure they'll sound even better once the school year is coming to a close. We've been working on a new website for his band program, so I came and took these pictures from my seat. It's a little difficult to get a lot of shots when you're stuck in one place!

It made me so proud to watch him conducting those kids. Seeing him get into the music with them is so much fun! You can really tell that he genuinely loves music and the kids he gets to create it with. And even though he'll tell you it's hard and he often wants to quit, as soon as you see him conduct, you know he doesn't really mean it. And of course, he's such a sweetheart and makes sure to thank everyone that has helped him get to where he's at. He's been so lucky to have such amazing staff and parents that have helped him since being at Maple Mountain. Without them, I'm not sure we'd be surviving! They do so much for both of us!

After breaking Josh's iPad last week, we went to Best Buy to get him a new one. Unfortunately, Apple likes to make life a wee bit difficult and we found out that we were going to have to go to an Apple Store to get all of his things transferred over to his new one and the closest store was in Sandy. So Thursday night we made a date of it and Josh came to pick me up after I was finished working (he had Fall Break last weekend). I found this little Apple Orchard in Sandy that was heard to have the *best* apple cider. I thought it would be so much fun to go and pick my own apples - they would look so cute sitting on my island!

We got to the Apple Orchard to find it completely bare. Apparently it had closed down a few weeks ago and they neglected to say so on their website. I was a little sad I didn't get to take home some fresh, hand picked apples, but we did still go to an Apple Store.... get it? *laugh*

We drove to the Shopping Mall in Sandy and went inside the Apple Store. The man at the check in desk informed us we were placed on a two hour waiting list!! What is happening to my date night!? We walked around the mall, grabbed an Orange Strawberry Julius, and then resorted to sitting in the Apple Store for the remaining forty minutes. Josh got up at the two hour mark and went to ask how much time we had left. Another hour. I wasn't too thrilled. I thought I'd have handpicked apples in my hands and food in my belly by now. But since the drive was a little inconvenient, we decided to stay the full three hours until Josh's name was called. Luckily, we were able to transfer some of his things over by hooking his iPad up to a computer so that we could actually see the screen. It was a little tricky to try to guess where to tap to open things, but we figured it out slowly, but surely!

After our Apple adventure, Josh drove us to B-Dubs in American Fork. I realized that my date night hadn't really gone as planned, but I was just thankful I got to spend so much time with him - even if it resulted in playing a game of Hearts while sitting in the Apple Store for three hours. Josh knew that it didn't make me super happy to have to wait that long, so he took me out to dinner. We ended up having a great time together and I felt even more like the luckiest girl alive. I'm thankful for a husband who loves spending time with me!

One of my greatest friends, EmmaLee, came over last Wednesday night and somehow I neglected to get a picture with her. Who does that!? But we had a good time putting together an "I Miss You/Good Luck on Midterms" package for her boyfriend who's currently at BYU-Idaho.

Dallin, Hollie, and Ashlyn came over on Friday night for a fun sleepover with Josh and I. We moved out TV into the Family Room and Josh borrowed his dad's Wii to play Smash Bro's. with my brother (Dallin has been waiting so long to play with Josh. Wedding planning kind of got in the way... :/). Ashlyn and Hollie and I made homemade pizza and made cute Halloween decorations while we waited for our dinner to cook.

Ashlyn had driven to Draper instead of Mapleton, so our dinner was a little off schedule. We ate pretty late and then made a yummy treat for dessert. Around 11:30, we popped a few bags of popcorn and fell asleep to Hercules. The next morning we made a huge breakfast and then played board games until I had to leave to go take family pictures.

At one point during the night, Hollie said, "You guys are weird." I said, "You're the one hanging out with us!!" And she said, "I know. It's cause I like it." I'm glad I have little siblings who will come over and hang out with me! We had so much fun hosting a night for Fall break and are already planning the next one! It's an exciting thought to think that Sister Hill can join us soon!

After we finished taking family pictures, Josh and I went to the Sticky Shoe in American Fork to see the movie Dunkirk. It was such a great movie! It was a little confusing to follow, but we pulled up Google and educated ourselves a little after the movie and it made more sense. I definitely recommend it!

Sunday was a busy day. We sang during church in the ward choir and then practiced again once church was over. After choir, we tidied up our basement apartment as quickly as we could before our Home Teacher came over to meet us. As soon as he was out the door, we were getting ready to go to Christine's house for dinner and games. We've been playing a lot of Forbidden Dessert recently and decided to show Sam, Britney, Lorraine, and Christine (Josh's side of the family). It was a lovely day that was filled with the spirit and spent with family.

We've definitely enjoyed our time off and weren't looking forward to the alarm clock going off this morning. I'm just grateful that I get to come home to Josh every day :).
